School Improvement Plan

Each year, the school runs a parent, staff and pupil survey.  The Governors and Leadership Team consider the views expressed in these carefully, as well as performance data and the views of other external assessments of the school in devising development priorities for the coming year.  

Our current priorities are:

Objective 1

QUALITY OF EDUCATION

Improve standards in English by:

  • Ensuring children in EYFS develop the ability to communicate effectively, develop a wide vocabulary and secure a knowledge of phonics which gives them the foundations to become confident and fluent readers.

  • Ensuring high quality teaching of reading (including reading across the curriculum) plugs the ‘word gap’, is sequential and develops learners’ fluency, comprehension, confidence and enjoyment in reading.

  • Focusing on the effective and consistent teaching of spelling and grammar.

  • Developing a whole school approach to handwriting.

Objective 2

QUALITY OF EDUCATION

Curriculum planning for progression using DPS pillars and high quality teaching ensures that learners engage actively and deeply with their learning, embedding subject specific knowledge and skills and making connections in their learning.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

SMSC development and PSHCE is embedded throughout the curriculum and beyond the classroom so that learners gain the skills necessary for future success enabling them to become responsible, well-rounded citizens and agents of change.

To continue to improve and develop our inclusive practice to ensure we meet the needs of all children including those with SEND, EAL and the most able.

To provide staff with the best possible opportunities for growth and development, building a collaborative, trust-based, low threat structure in which staff are comfortable to take risks and are able to thrive personally and professionally.

We carefully monitor our progress towards achieving these targets, with the support of our Governors and external advisors and using feedback from parents, staff and pupils.  Our staff are committed to working together to achieve all our targets so that our children have the best possible opportunities both during their time with us and in their future lives.
