Boys football vs St Dunstans Borough Cup match

The excitement was brewing last week as the Y6’s travelled for their Borough Cup game against St Dunstans...

With a new look team it was a chance to get the first win of the season. The whistle sounded and the first half was underway on a warm but chilly Thursday afternoon, Dorchester dominated the early proceedings with Archie coming the closest to opening the scoring. However, against the run of play it was St Dunstans that took an early lead into half time. The key was the heads didn’t drop and with changes being made at half time it was Danny who stretched the St Dunstan's back line and brought a real energy.

As the second half of the game became more stretched with both teams having chances, it was Dorchester who made the key breakthrough when captain fantastic Jake bravely put his body on the line winning a header at the near post that looped over the keeper to draw the teams level and spark celebrations.

The game was on a knife edge before the referee blew the dreaded whistle which meant only one thing… extra time.

As extra time went on you could feel the nervous energy in the air, who was going to be the match winner for their team yet nobody wanted to make that mistake. As Dorchester pushed for the winner it was St Dunstans that hit them on the counter attack and a fierce strike ultimately was the difference between the two teams. Heartbreak yet again for the Y6’s who can hold their heads up so high for giving everything on the pitch and covering every blade of grass.

Special mention to the whole team who played excellently but it was captain fantastic Jake who picked up the MOTM award.
