  • Squash Festival in Purley

    Published 05/07/24

This was a brand new event for this year and was a follow-up competition to the squash festival and multi-sports events, earlier in the year, that we took children along to.

Our team of four squash players played against St Mary’s, Barrow Hedges and Foresters – each player getting two singles matches against each school. There were some extremely close and exciting games and all the children did really well applying the rules and scoring their own and other players’ matches. Throughout the morning our players really settled into their games, gaining more confidence and warming up well into their all-round match play. There were some great rallies and some excellent winning shots!

All of our players won matches which contributed towards their overall team bronze medal placing.

It was so nice to have squash added to the events programme this year and all the children who took part really enjoyed themselves and have started to develop some brand new skills that they will hopefully use again going forward. We’re certainly looking forward to doing more of this in the future!

Very well done to Carson, Isla, Vivaan and Lily! Photo to come next week!

  • Personal Bests Week

    Published 28/06/24

Another PB where the sun has shone and so has the work of all the children from Year 1 to Year 6.

Our PB Weeks give all our children an opportunity to think about their own ‘Best’ and how having personal goals can help us all move forward and progress.

This week, Year 1 and 2 have competed in Scatterball and Year 3-6 have played Rounders. There has been an impressive display of healthy competition, team work and physical ability, with everyone bringing their best to contribute towards a team effort.

We have been so impressed by each of the year groups and their approaches to their PB efforts this week, which has been reflected in the results where we have had a wider spread of House Team winners this time than any other week before!

Well done to all the children for making this such a successful week and for entering into it with the positive sporting attitude that we are striving to develop at Dorchester.

  • A, B and C Netball vs St Marys

    Published 28/06/24

This was our last fixture of a very busy, and successful, year on the netball front.

It was with mixed emotions that I approached the games – it’s always great to have our teams on court, but this was the last time I would be part of a match with our committed group of Year 6 players who have had much success in terms of their progress, results and how much fun they have made it week on week. They will be missed next year.

The A team completed their Dorchester netball journey with a 6-3 win against a strong team and should be very pleased with how well they calmed their play when St Mary’s started to narrow the gap and were able to combine well to ease ahead for their final victory of the year.

The B team saw a few players trialling new positions and against a well-practised St Mary’s team they found it hard to settle into their own game, but the 6-0 score line doesn’t reflect some of the smooth passages of play and lovely circle feeding that they displayed during the game.

This was the first ever match for most of our C team players, who waited very patiently to play in the third game of the fixture. The most pleasing thing about their performance was their technical netball – footwork was good, as was their understanding of their positions – which is key for all these players going forward. The final score was 4-0 to St Mary’s, but due to time constraints some of the opposition team were A team players playing out of position and so our C team should be very pleased with how they coped with this and how they managed to keep the score line within touching distance for the whole game – only one goal scored in the second half!

A huge thank you to all the players for their enthusiasm towards our matches this year and also to the number of parents who have regularly come to support, both home and away matches, whatever the weather!

  • Swimming Gala

    Published 28/06/24

    Swimming Gala

It was a hot evening poolside – both in temperature and in the way the Dorchester swimmers performed!

It was a lovely example of support for each and other and encouragement, topped off by a collection of medals won by the end of the Gala!

Such gutsy swims from all our children – from Adam and Kalyna who swam in the Year 4 Freestyle in their first school Gala, to Hailey, Esmee and Harshith who showed what competing for your school is all about with their determination, to Scarlett, Isobel, Paige and Dominic winning a host of silver and bronze medals, through to our gold medallists Lorenzo, Charlotte and Sherry – what a great team effort!

Congratulations to them all for making it a Friday evening we wouldn’t have missed!

    Year 5/6 Borough Athletics

Due to work going on at The David Weir Centre, this year’s Borough Athletics was just open to Year 5 and Year 6 athletes. It was a hot afternoon to be competing, but our Squad of 16 runners and our Team Manager were excellent ambassadors for Dorchester, both with their performances and their conduct throughout the competition.

  • Reception Sports Day Speedy Success

    Published 14/06/24

On Monday, all of the Reception children turned out in their house team shirts and ran, jumped, threw, balanced and persevered exceptionally well in all events! So many smiles, and so many talented young athletes we have! Thanks so much to all parents who came along to support, and of course to all the Reception staff for all the preparation and arranging of children into their various groups, and finally, to Carol for organising the day. It was evident in how happy everyone was that the day was a huge success!

  • An amazing effort!

    Published 14/06/24

After winning the Sutton borough 3 v 3 basketball competition, Dorchester Primary School was invited to represent Sutton in the 2024 London Youth Games, under 11 category, held at the Score Centre in East London.
It was impressive that our team performed so well given they had a tough group and secured a spot in the quarter finals. Although they didn't win, the team had a great experience and it is fantastic that the team was able to showcase their skills and teamwork on a larger stage. Losing by just one point can be frustrating, but it's also a great motivator for future competitions. The fact that the children represented their school and borough with pride is something to be immensely proud of.

I hope DPS continues to do well in future competitions and has many more opportunities to represent their school and community.

  • Year 6 Cricket Competition

    Published 07/06/24

Though the whole team had a fantastic day, and made huge improvements throughout the matches, they did, sadly, lose all three of their games today. It takes real spirit and courage to keep your head up high in circumstances such as these, and huge credit to the team for maintaining their smiles and upbeat attitudes in spite of their match results. Well done to Ronnie, Vihaan, Jack, Jake, Ayush, Hei, Evie and Taylor. Thanks as well to Mr Rayner for being their coach today!
