What units of measure can you notice and calculate with at home or out and about?

This week in Year5, we have been ploughing on with the fantastic novel ‘The Girl of Ink and Stars’ and are practising writing powerful and visual setting descriptions for the upcoming star writes. In Maths, we have started a new unit on converting units, focussing on millimetres, centimetres, metres, grams and kilograms – try as much as you can to notice these as you’re out and about or just doing odd jobs at home – cooking, measuring, all real life examples will really help children put these types of number conversions into context. In Science, we learnt about how we have day and night based on the rotation of the earth in relation to the sun. In PSHE, we have been looking at how to analyse news and be able to determine whether a news source is credible or not, but also researching and learning more about Pride. Thanks again to all parents and carers who were able to attend the wonderful Year 5 assembly on Monday, they really did a superb job – there were tears in the audience! In RE, we learnt about the Jewish festival Purim and why it is special for the religion of Judaism.
