Year 2: What toy did you choose for the toy museum?

To review this half-term’s learning, the children had to apply all their knowledge of toys to curate their toy museum. The children explored how the materials and style of toy could help identify the age of the toy. The children understand that, typically, toys from the 1950’s and 60’s were mostly wooden, metal or fabric, whereas plastic toys became more popular from the 1970’s onwards. Toys with electric, moving parts and video games became more popular from the 1980’s onwards.
Not only did the children have to find out the age of their toy, but they had to be able to identify its materials, if there were any moving parts, and if there was anything unique about their toy which may make it popular. They then put them into categories and displayed them around the classroom.
The children have really enjoyed learning more about a variety of toys over time, and we are looking forward to our next History topic on The Great Fire of London.
