Year 2 - What are hospitals like? How do they compare to hospitals from the past?

To finish off our topic about the History of Medicine, the children spent the afternoon looking at how hospitals today compare to the hospital Florence Nightingale would have worked at during the Crimean War. The children were able to identify some of the key features of modern hospitals, whilst looking at what Florence Nightingale did to improve the conditions in the war hospital in Scutari. The children have learned a lot about the significant impact Florence Nightingale had on modern hospitals, and the way patients were cared for.

The children have shown us so much interest about this topic, and we have really enjoyed reading their Star Write letters that they have written as Florence Nightingale, asking for help with the soldiers in the hospital. We are looking forward to getting into some more Geography after the holidays, learning all about China.
