The Leaf Thief

Why were the leaves disappearing from the trees?

This week we have been reading the story ‘The Leaf Thief’ by Alice Hemming. The story is about a squirrel who is confused as to why the leaves keep on disappearing. His friend Bird explains that this happens every year. The children have used some of our fallen leaves to make leaf rubbings using crayons and have also created some lovely autumn creatures with the leaves they collected. In Maths we have discussed size, using the vocabulary bigger, smaller, longer and shorter. The children have practised this by finding the correct size crate for animals based on the story ‘Dear Zoo’. On Friday, all the children made bird feeders at Forest School, which they could either take home or put on a school tree.
