Nursery: Why do Christians celebrate Christmas? What happened in Bethlehem?

This week in nursery we have been finding out about the first Christmas story and thinking about why Christmas is special to Christians. We read 'The story of Christmas' by Hayley Down and the children enjoyed using a Nativity set to retell the story. Next week we are going to make a stable in our outside area to enable the children to role-play the story. We were all really excited when a real life donkey came to visit us on Friday and we all sang our donkey song from the nativity to the donkey. We think the donkey must have been very tired after he plodded all the way to Bethlehem! We have also been very busy making some masks to use in our nativity performance and we cannot wait to show our parents/carers how many makaton signs we have learnt.
