Year 4

What was your favourite way of adapting the shortbread recipe?

In history this week we have been reflecting and recapping our knowledge on everything we have learned about Celts and Romans.  The children amazed us with all they understand and can remember about this period of history.  In English we are continuing to work towards our persuasive Star Write by making sure the children have a bank of writing features to call on in their published work.  As we came to the end of our addition and subtraction unit we have been using different strategies and methods to make our calculations more efficient and effective, including the use of the inverse to check our answers.  Our Design and Technology unit was adapting a shortbread recipe.  We set up in a 'Bake Off' style where we tasted shortbread, completed a 'technical' challenge with given ingredients and then created our 'showstopper' finished product.  Our favourite combination of adapted ingredients was mint and chocolate - definitely worthy of a 'Hollywood Handshake'.  It was wonderful to see so many parents coming to see our work on Italy, Japan and The Philippines at our 'Trip Around the World' - thank you for coming.
