Number Day 2024!
The children in Year 5 were incredibly lucky to have the extremely generous and talented mothers of Etta & Emma, Kate, Molly and Kelson who kindly came into school for three consecutive mornings this week and ran highly engaging and fun sessions all about Chinese New Year. The children learnt about Lunar New Year traditions, the Chinese Zodiac - the year of Dragon and fun facts of DOs and DON'TS during the new year days.
They experienced the writing of Fai-Chun and traditional Chinese paper cutting and there was also a chance to see some traditional Chinese clothing! The mums put so much time and effort into preparing and delivering wonderful presentations all about this important festival and the children had an absolute blast, and learnt so much - at the end, they all received their own red gift envelopes - a staple tradition, with good luck messages written in Chinese inside.
We are so fortunate to have such an incredible community of families here at Dorchester, and we are so very grateful for your time - thank you so much to all the Mums again!
Here is what our pupil leaders across the school have been working on recently!
We are fortunate to have here at Dorchester Primary a sensational KS1 choir, which currently only consists of 6 children - and there is space for 20! So if your child is in KS1 and would like to join, there is more than enough space and they would be welcomed with open arms!
The choir are now rehearsing in preparation for the KS1 Big Sing 2024! They will be performing two songs on their own and then 4 songs with the other schools also taking part. KS1 choir takes place on Tuesdays after school, so if you are interested please contact the school office as this performance they are preparing for is set to be very special indeed.
We will once again be celebrating World Book Day, with a book character dress up day and lots of exciting book themed learning activities throughout the day.
We are so proud of Nathan (Lavender Class) who has shown amazing resilience over the last few years - and has now done a brilliant job of becoming a scientist and finding out all about the medical treatment he received.
Measles is likely to spread rapidly across more parts of the UK unless more people take up the vaccine, a senior health official has warned.
Dame Jenny Harries, chief executive of the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), says vaccination rates are "well below" what is recommended by the World Health Organization.
Pop-up clinics are being introduced to get more children vaccinated as cases continue to rise.
Measles is a highly contagious disease. It is spread by coughs and sneezes.
