Testing Darwin’s theory of Natural Selection

In Year 6 this week, we have been developing our learning on evolution by testing Darwin’s theory of Natural Selection. We used Darwin’s theory of finches to test how a birds beak can impact the food they eat. We used different types of beaks (clothes pegs, toothpicks, scissors and spoons) to replicate the shapes of different beaks. We then timed ourselves to see how much different foods each beak could collect! From our investigations, we found out that Darwins theory was correct and Finchs had to adapt to their different environments based on the food that was available.
