Year 5 - Who was William Morris?

On Monday morning, we were whisked back to 1875 to take part in our Victorian school day. We started the day by singing the National anthem, we were registered with our new Victorian names and learnt a new way of writing with chalk on a slate. The day continued with the 3R's, drill and hand and uniform inspections. After lunch, we looked at the designs of the up-and-coming Victorian artist William Morris. As a fabric designer, we looked at his inspirations of plants and animals. We created our own printing block and printed our own wall paper inspired by some of Morris's designs. As we return to 2026 and reflected on our Victorian school day, our experience made us appreciate some of the luxuries we have at school – even teachers that are not as strict and don't have canes to keep us in line! A great day was had by all.
