Year 5 – What is the difference between a delta and an estuary?

For this last week of the half-term we have been busy. We have finished our pop-up books which we are looking forward to sharing with our Little Friends before the end of the half-term. We enjoyed a very sunny sports day yesterday where we completed a range of throwing, jumping and running events. Perfect weather and great organisation made it a really enjoyable morning for parents, staff and pupils. To round off our Geography project on rivers, we looked at the end of the river and what happens to the land and water. We discovered that the estuary is where the river meets the sea. A delta is what happens in some rivers where sediment settles and creates areas of land, mudflats and salt marshes in the mouth of the river. With one more term of learning, we are beginning to realise that the end of Year 5 is coming ever closer, with lots more learning still to do.
