Year 5 - How are chickens and humans similar and different?

This week we have found many connections in our learning. In History this week we were looking at Charles Darwin and his work "On the Origin of Species." He travelled around the world during Victorian times and discovered that some animals had adapted to their environments. He noticed this particularly through birds' beaks and tortoise shells and necks. These ideas really challenged the Victorian beliefs in Creation.  In RE, we are learning about the Christian rites of passage – the religious ceremonies Christians may go through, including Baptism, confirmation, communion, marriage and death. In Science, we have compared the life cycle of birds, especially chickens, and humans. Did you know both humans and chickens start life as an egg, have a child phase, a teen phase before the adult stage? It is during the adult phase that reproduction happens before the final stage of death. Who would have thought we had so much in common with our feathered friends!
