Year 2: What effect did the Great Fire have on London?

This week the children were asked to compare London before 1666 and after. Here are some of the ideas they came up with:
Before the fire, houses in London were close together and the streets were very narrow. After the fire, the houses were spread out more, and the streets were wider.
Before the fire, houses were mostly made from wood. After the fire, more houses were built with brick and stone.
Before the fire, it was hard to get water around London, as the pipes were made from hollowed wooden logs. After the fire, they eventually developed metal pipes to move water around London more effectively.
