Year 2: What toys did our parents and grandparents play with? How do they compare?

Toys from the past were made with different materials to today’s toys. In the past, most toys were made with wood, metal or fabric. More modern toys are now made with plastic. Lots of modern toys are electric.

During History this week we explored how games have changed over time, by comparing video games consoles from the past. The children noticed things like the size, shape, colours and amount of buttons were different. When looking closely at a Gameboy and comparing it to a Nintendo Switch, the children could see that there were still some similarities, such as the shape and position of the buttons. There were also differences, such as the light-up screen, the cartridges, being able to play online, etc.
