Year 2: Who was Florence Nightingale, and why was she significant?

In preparation for our trip, we started learning about Florence Nightingale. We acted out what it would have been like in hospitals before Florence Nightingale's time. Although the children thought it was very silly to lie on the floor, some with bandages on, some with reused bandages, and some with nothing at all; we all agreed that a hospital shouldn't be like that!
We explored the life of Florence Nightingale and the impact she had on our hospitals. The children were very clear in their understanding of hospitals needing to be clean, with plenty of beds, medicine and healthy food and water.
