Year 2: What effect did the Great Fire have on London?

This week the children were asked to compare London before 1666 and after. Before the fire, houses in London were close together and the streets were very narrow. After the fire, the houses were spread out more, and the streets were wider. Before the fire, houses were mostly made of wood, whereas after the fire, more houses were built with brick and stone. Before the fire, it was hard to get water around London, as the pipes were made from hollowed wooden logs, but after the fire, they eventually developed metal pipes to move water around London more effectively.
The children have learned and remembered so much already, and they have so many more questions! We are really looking forward to our trip on Thursday to learn more.
