Year 1: How can we stabilise objects with weight?

In Design & Technology, Year 1 used paper straws and tape to build their own basketball hoops. The children then investigated how they could make their basketball hoop more stable by adding more weight. Through trial and error, the children learnt that adding heavy weights at the bottom stopped it falling over and by putting weight at the base made it strong and stable.
