For Parents - How to Talk to Children if they see Traumatic Events

Many children will have seen or heard some of the horrific events that have been happening across the world recently. Whether that's on the news, someone discussing it, or perhaps online, children can be traumatised by what they are seeing and hearing via news platforms, on the radio and TV, in Social media etc and knowing what to say to the children when they ask why is sometimes difficult.  Too much information can be scary but when children don’t know the answers they sometimes fill in the gaps by themselves  or seek answers from peers or un-reputable sites, which can also be dangerous..

This article from The Conversation discusses the issue and gives some really good advice on how to talk to your children about those big topics and if course, if you are unsure, you can always speak to you child’s teacher or a member of the leadership team.
