Nursery: How do we make pancakes?

Wow! What an exciting week we have had in Nursery in this week. We started the week by reading the story of ‘Mr Wolf’s Pancakes’ by Jan Fearnley. The children all felt very sorry Mr Wolf because he did not know how to make pancakes. He tried to read his Recipe Book but “wolves aren’t very good at reading,” the children showed that their reading skills were better than Mr Wolf’s because they noticed that he was trying to read the book upside down. Mr Wolf asked his neighbours to help him but they were all very unkind and would not help. Mr Wolf also struggled to write a shopping list and count out the money that he needed to buy the ingredients from the shop. Again he asked his neighbours for help but they wouldn’t help him so he had to do it all by himself. We talked about how we should help each other in Nursery when we find things difficult. We also talked about Mr Wolf’s perseverance and even though he found all the tasks tricky he kept trying and did the jobs all by himself. In the end, he was rewarded with a large pile of delicious pancakes. The children worked really hard to draw their own recipes so that they knew how to make pancakes. They listed the ingredients and then drew step-by-step instructions and they were very good at giving verbal instructions too e.g. “First you put the flour in the bowl.” The children were then rewarded with the opportunity to make their own pancakes. We also enjoyed World Book day on Thursday and the children all enjoyed talking about their favourite characters from different stories.
