Nursery

Dorchester Nursery provides a fun, caring, stimulating and positive environment where your child will explore, discover, learn and play; we will develop and nurture their individual strengths and talents and focus on those all important key skills — communication and language, building relationships, sharing and taking turns, developing gross and fine motor skills, counting, recognising numbers, enjoying stories, rhymes and action songs, exploring mark making and finding out about the world around them.

Whether your child is already confident or needs to build their confidence, they will quickly find their place with us and feel that sense of belonging that our strong community engenders; they will make friends and lay the foundations they need to become confident learners

On arrival at our nursery sessions, you and your child will always be greeted with a warm smile from our team of caring Nursery staff.  Nursery provision is led by a qualified and experienced teacher, who is supported by a fantastic positive and committed team. The Nursery is equipped with a large, well-resourced classroom and outdoor learning area complete with a covered area, sandpit and mud kitchen.  In the Foundation Stage the children learn through a variety of structured and free play opportunities taking into account the children’s interests and experiences.

Once the children are settled into Nursery, they are introduced to Phase 1 Phonics sessions, including a range of games, songs and instruments to develop children’s speaking and listening skills.

Children attend for mornings, afternoons or all day sessions, five days a week during term time. Children who have been offered a place with us will be invited to visit the Nursery with their parents and carers before their first session, so that they can familiarise themselves with our environment.

We offer regular feedback to parents through consultation meetings in the autumn and spring terms and by providing a written report outlining your child's progress in the summer term.

We are a friendly team here and operate an 'open door' policy.  Clearly, for safety reasons, this doesn't mean you can pop into Nursery at any time to chat to us, but it does mean we will always make ourselves available, at a mutually convenient time, to talk through any concerns you might have about your child or their development.
