Achieving Excellence Together in a Caring Community

At Dorchester Primary School, we combine high expectations with a caring, inclusive approach. We want every child to develop secure knowledge and skills, enjoy learning and leave us ready for the next stage of their education.

Assessment results are one part of that picture. Alongside academic achievement, we value children’s creativity, independence, friendships and confidence, and the contribution they make to our school community.

Understanding our cohort

Our 2026 Year 6 cohort comprised 94 pupils, bringing a wide range of strengths, experiences and learning needs to our school community.

Cohort information Number of pupils Percentage
Special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) 29 31%
Eligible for pupil premium funding 19 20%
English as an additional language (EAL) 50 53%

These groups overlap: 12 pupils were both eligible for pupil premium and identified as having SEND. EAL includes children with different levels of English proficiency, including fluent English speakers.

Our whole-cohort attainment percentages include all 94 pupils, including three children working within pre-key stage standards who did not sit the national tests.

We maintain high ambitions for every child. Alongside these attainment measures, we consider individual progress, wider achievements and readiness for secondary school.

What the results tell us

Dorchester’s results were above the national figures in reading, mathematics, and grammar, punctuation and spelling at the expected standard, and above national figures in every subject at the higher standard or greater depth.

A particular strength was higher attainment across reading, writing and mathematics together: 23% of our pupils achieved this standard, compared with 9% nationally. In writing, 28% achieved greater depth, compared with 13% nationally.

At the expected standard, our combined result of 62% was close to the national figure of 63%. Writing attainment was 71%, compared with 73% nationally, and remains a priority for improvement. We want more children to develop the fluency, accuracy and confidence needed to reach the expected standard while continuing to challenge those ready to achieve greater depth.

We consider these results alongside the cohort context below and our knowledge of each child’s learning and progress. This helps us recognise strengths and identify where teaching and support need to have greater impact.

National comparisons use the Department for Education’s provisional 2026 Key Stage 2 statistics published in September 2026. Dorchester’s figures are school-calculated results updated following the review of marking. Percentages are rounded to whole numbers.
