Nursery: Can you find objects beginning with the 's' phoneme?
Over the autumn and winter period, there are lots of celebrations that use lights as part of their celebration, for example, Diwali, bonfire night, Lunar new year and Christmas. If you celebrate any of these celebrations, we would love to see photographs so that the children talk about their real-life experiences. We will be reading a book called ‘Little Glow’ by Katie Sahota. This is a beautifully illustrated book that helps the children to see how all the light celebrations have some similarities to them. We have started looking at this book this week.
In Nursery this week we have begun to learn about Diwali which is the festival of light. The children enjoyed finding out about different ways that Diwali can be celebrated. We will continue to find out more about this festival over the next couple of weeks. The children have been talking about some of the fireworks that they have seen and we have been experimenting to try and make different ‘safe’ fireworks in the nursery garden.
We have also learnt our first letter sound for phonics this week and enjoyed taking Bertha the bus to the zoo to find lots of different animals beginning with the s phoneme.
