WhatsApp – Are Your Children Using It Safely?

WhatsApp Channels: What Parents Need to Know
Did you know that WhatsApp has a feature called Channels, where users can follow updates from people, organisations and online communities?
Although some content is harmless, children may also come across inappropriate or adult content through Channels.
WhatsApp has a minimum age of 13 for standard accounts, although younger children can access the service through parent-managed accounts.
🔒 What parental controls are available?
For children under 13, parent-managed accounts offer additional safeguards, including:
-
No access to WhatsApp Channels.
-
No access to Meta AI or location sharing.
-
Parental control over which groups children can join.
For teenagers aged 13–17, additional parental controls can help restrict access to certain features, including Channels.
💡 Our advice: Take a few minutes to check your child's messaging apps, review privacy settings and talk about the content they may encounter.
