Nursery: How do you create a still life picture?

This week in Nursery we have continued to learn about plants and what they need to grow. We have been looking at our beans daily to look for any changes. We have seen that they have started to crack and some have roots and shoots growing out of them. We are going to challenge the children to continue to look after them at home, over the half term holiday, we cannot wait to see whose beanstalk grows to be the tallest. We have also looked closely at some tulips and then used pastels to draw some beautiful still life pictures. We have also been working in a variety of ways to develop our fine motor skills. We twisted pipe cleaners to create carrots and different root vegetables; we then planted them in soil and used tweezers to pull them out. We also pegged different parts onto a cardboard plant and used scissors to cut out and make paper flowers for our ‘garden.’ Another highlight of our week was when we had lots of the children’s family members join us for Live Phonics sessions. The parents/carers joined in with a phonics session and got to see how their children are acquiring early reading skills. We hope that the parents/carers were really proud of how much their children have been learning.
