Nursery: Why is forest school a good place for insects to live?

This week in Nursery we have continued to think about what makes a good environment for insects. We visited forest school and found out that is has lots of important features that make it a very good place for insects to live. We found a pond that is good for dragonflies, some dead wood to make homes for beetles, flowers and blossom that the bees need for nectar and leaves for the insects to hide in or eat. We also found some of the other animals that live in the forest school environment. We saw some tadpoles and of course the children loved meeting Bell the chicken. However, we did discuss that the chickens sometimes eat insects, so if insects are looking for a good place to live at forest school, they must stay away from the chicken coop! We have also started to learn about what plants need to grow; each of the children will be looking after their own bean to see if they can help it to grow.
