Year 5 - What would you need to survive if you were stranded?

Our reading and writing this term have been inspired by "Floodland" by Marcus Sedgwick. It is a dystopian novel based in the future around Norwich. It is about a young girl who gets stranded on an island. Life is tough and other tribes are coming to invade. We are using this as inspiration. Our writing is set at Dorchester Primary, an island surrounded by the sea. We are at an unknown point in the future, and we are trying to survive. It has been interesting to think about what it would be like. We have all decided we would prefer school to be full of happy children, with great resources and colourful displays, and not what our imaginations have thought it could be like if the sea flooded all around. In other areas of the curriculum we have been investigating friction, finding out more about Moses and learning more about the journey a river takes.
