Reception: How do Jews celebrate Hanukkah?

The highlight of this week has to be the amazing Nativity performances given by the Reception and Nursery children on Tuesday and Wednesday. They did themselves proud. We have also been learning about another festival - the Jewish festival of Hanukkah, which started last Sunday and runs until next Sunday. We have been learning the story of Judah Maccabee and his army that fought hard so Jews could repair and restore their temple, which had been destroyed by King Antiochus. One of the ways Hanukkah is celebrated, is the eating of food which has been cooked in oil, so on Friday, we will be joining the celebrations by eating doughnuts!
