Nursery: Who is in your family?
This week, we have read the book ‘All About Families’ by Felicity Brooks. We have been thinking about the different people that are in our families and how they are related to us. We have learnt different vocabulary that people use to refer to different family members. For example, some people call their grandmother granny, gran, nanny or nan. We have also been thinking about the different relationships within our families for example, we have learnt that our grandfather is actually our father’s father. The children have enjoyed using different media to create some family portraits.
The children have all been very excited as we start to think about transition. The children who are moving to our Reception classes at Dorchester Primary School have all enjoyed two visits to their new classrooms and can confidently talk about what they have enjoyed doing and what they are really looking forward to in Reception. We will continue to visit the Reception area over the next two weeks to help the children to become increasingly familiar with the environment and their new teachers. We have also been supporting children who are moving to other schools by looking at their new school’s websites to talk about their classrooms and the uniform that they will wear.
The children who are staying with us in Nursery are all really excited to meet their new friends and help them to settle in September. We have also been talking to the children about some changes that we could make to the Nursery environment to make it even better and they have confidently given their input.
