  • Year 1: What are you most looking forward to about Year 2?

    Year 1 enjoyed going to see the Year 6 production this week. They sat beautifully and loved watching the older children perform. On Wednesday morning, it was time for a big adventure as the children ‘’moved up’’ to their brand new Year 2 classrooms. They spent a brilliant morning getting to know their new teachers, learning all about the exciting topics they will be learning about and finding out all about Year 2.

  • Year 1: How did the invention of trains change holidays?

    What a hot week it has been! We have tried to stay as cool as possible. On Friday, we investigated the enquiry question: How did the invention of trains change holidays? We transformed our classroom into a train station, collected our tickets and climbed aboard our very own train for an exciting journey to the seaside. Once we arrived, we had lots of fun building sandcastles, playing with our friends and paddling in the water. Through our imaginative journey, we learned how trains made it possible for more families to travel to the seaside for holidays.

  • Year 1:What was your favourite race at Sports Day?​​​​​​​

    Year 1 had a fantastic time taking part in Sports Day and showed great enthusiasm, determination and teamwork throughout the event. The children enjoyed participating in six different races: the sprint, hurdles, javelin, sack race, bean bag throw and egg and spoon race. They demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, cheering on their classmates and trying their very best. Thank you to all the parents and carers who came to watch and support the children. Your encouragement helped make the day even more special.

  • Year 1: How can you mix the primary colours to make the secondary colours?

    In Year 1, the children investigated how red, blue and yellow can be combined to create new colours. To showcase their learning, the children created their own artwork inspired by the artist Jasper Johns. They studied how he used numbers in his artwork and then designed their own colourful number pictures.

  • Year 1: What types of transport do you know and when would you use each one?

    This week in Year 1, we have been learning about different types of transport and discussing when we might use each one. The children enjoyed exploring transport used on land, in the air, and on water, and thinking about the purposes of different vehicles. In our Art learning, we investigated colour mixing and had great fun experimenting with primary colours to create secondary colours. The children were excited to discover how different colours can be made and enjoyed sharing their colourful creations.

  • Year 1: How do we make democratic decisions?

    In PSHE, Year 1 have been learning about democracy and how voting helps people make fair decisions that affect larger groups. We discussed how voting allows everyone to have a voice and helps us choose ideas in a way that is fair to all. The children worked collaboratively in groups to create their own class rules using a democratic process. They shared ideas, listened to each other's opinions and voted on the rules they felt were most important, developing their teamwork skills and understanding of making decisions together.

  • Year 1: What is the difference between deciduous and evergreen trees?

    This week in Year 1, the children have been busy exploring and learning in a variety of exciting ways. In Science, we investigated the difference between deciduous and evergreen trees and went on a walk around the playground to identify different types of trees in our environment. The children enjoyed observing the leaves and discussing what they noticed. We also had great fun making our own smoothies! The children selected their ingredients carefully and were very excited to taste their creations once everything had been blended together. It was wonderful to see everyone trying new flavours and sharing their thoughts about their smoothies.

  • Year 1: Which ingredients have you chosen for your smoothie recipe?

    This week, the children have been exploring which ingredients to put into their smoothies. They enjoyed tasting a variety of fruits and juices to help them decide which flavours they liked best and what they wanted to include in their smoothie recipes. The children discussed their choices, comparing sweet, tangy and refreshing combinations. Next week, the children are looking forward to making their smoothies and seeing how their chosen ingredients taste together.

  • Year 1: What is an imperative verb?

    In Year 1, the children have been developing their understanding of imperative verbs and time adverbs. They have particularly enjoyed exploring these through following instructions to make a jam sandwich. The children have also begun practising important food preparation skills, including safely cutting and juicing a variety of fruits, in preparation for making smoothies in a couple of weeks.

  • Year 1: What are the parts of a plant?

    In Science, the children have been learning about the different parts of a plant in Science. They explored roots, stems, leaves and flowers and discussed the important role each part plays in helping a plant grow and survive. We went on a walk around the school grounds where the children carefully observed a variety of plants in their natural environment. They showed great curiosity, spotting similarities and differences between plants. Back in the classroom, the children applied their knowledge by labelling their own plants.

  • Year 1: What is the world?

    In Year 1, the children have enjoyed beginning our topic all about the world. We started by learning about the seven continents and five oceans that make up our planet. The children had the opportunity to apply their knowledge by labelling their own maps. We have also been practising counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

  • Year 1: How did we make our spider sculpture?

    In Art this half term, we have been learning about 3D sculptures. The children enjoyed making a class spider sculpture based off of Louise Bourgeois ‘Maman’ Sculpture. The children used the skills of rolling to create the sculpture out of paper and then painted it to look like a spider.
