28th March 2024

Dear Dorchester Families,

Well, we have made it to the end of term - and what a productive and enjoyable term it has been, if a little wetter than we would have liked!

The Easter parade was a wonder to behold (if a little loud if you have ever heard 500 children singing spring chicken at the top of their voices!) but hugely enjoyable - so many gorgeously designed Easter bonnets and hats on display, what a creative bunch of children we have here. The Year 6s delivered the Easter assembly on the last day of term eloquently and it was a lovely reminder of the story of the resurrection and why we celebrate Easter. Thanks to the staff and children for putting this together. FODS also provided us with the Easter bunny and opportunities for all classes to have their own egg hunt which went down amazingly with the children - thank you FODS!

On Wednesday we had our Spring Teatime concert which was a huge success, read on below to see photos from this marvellous event - thanks to all staff and children who made this such a great success again.

See also below for our netball results, and specifically, our tremendously exciting new KS2 playground outdoor area design competition...

We also still have places at our holiday club, running next week from Tuesday 3rd - Friday 6th, see below for details:

A gentle reminder to all families too that if over the Easter break you were planning on buying any new trainers or school shoes that they should be plain black please, and that PE joggers and short should be the same.

A reminder of our uniform policy is here: https://www.dorchesterprimary.com/page/?title=Uniform&pid=62

For all families taking part in Ramadan currently, Eid Mubarak for when Eid arrives.

And finally, we hope that everyone has a safe and restful Easter break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday 15th April, where hopefully the sun will be shining a little more and it will be raining a little less!

Take care everyone,

Mr Dennis

Safe and Healthy Easter Tips

Five tips to keep your family healthy and safe this Easter weekend

https://www.rxwiki.com/sites/files/styles/article_2/public/photo/dreamstime_s_67587711.jpg

Easter, a joyful celebration for many, is quickly approaching. To ensure your family and friends have a safe Easter holiday, keep the following safety tips in mind.

1) Be Mindful of Choking Hazards

Small sweets and toys with small pieces are choking hazards for kids. To minimise choking risk, give out age-appropriate sweets and toys and keep an eye on little ones at all times.

2) Practice Egg Safety

Eggs are a potentially hazardous food that can carry and spread disease-causing bacteria if not stored or cooked properly. To promote egg safety during your Easter celebration, put the following tips into practice:

  • Always keep eggs refrigerated before boiling them for Easter decorating or painting.
  • Don’t eat or cook eggs that are cracked or have been unrefrigerated for more than two hours.
  • If decorated eggs are left at room temperature for hours or days, do not eat them.
  • Always wash your hands when handling eggs, especially between cooking, cooling and dyeing.

3) Hunt Safely

Plan a safe Easter egg hunt. Do not hide eggs near electrical outlets or light sockets, around glass, in plants that have thorns or in holes in the ground. Additionally, be mindful of children’s age differences when planning egg hunts. If there is a risk of older, bigger children accidentally hurting smaller, younger children during the hunt, consider having separate egg hunts for different age groups.

4) Be Careful with Easter Critters

Avoid purchasing animals as Easter gifts. Chicks and bunnies may be cute and cuddly, but they can carry bacteria that can make your child sick. Children do not have fully developed immune systems, which means they face a higher risk of illness than adults. If your children touch any type of pet, teach them to wash their hands before touching food or their eyes or mouth.

5) Keep Food Allergies in Mind

Protect family members and friends who have food allergies. Sweets that is free of dairy, peanuts and gluten is readily available at most grocery stores. Additionally, snacks like popcorn, gummy bears, and cheese crackers are great alternatives to products that contain chocolate or nuts.
