Dear Dorchester Families

Our Year 6 children have risen admirably to the challenge of completing their SATs (Standard Assessment Tests) in Reading, Grammar and Spelling and Mathis this week.  With papers every day from Monday to Thursday, it is often the children's first experience of formal testing; it was wonderful to see them wanting to do so well and show off all they have learnt in these areas during their time at primary school.  At Dorchester, we always remember that SATs only represent a very small part of all that children learn here, and, whilst of course we want them to feel prepared and do well, we aim to take a measured approach so that the children enjoy the week, and enjoy some great activities afterwards.  I hope all of our Year 6 children are aware that the positive attitudes and values they learn during their time with us are far more important than a level on a piece of paper.

Just a reminder that spring and summer term School Fund is available to pay on School Gateway.  School Fund is a voluntary fund that we ask parents to pay as it helps us to make our curriculum more exciting for the children by, for example, having guest speakers in school.  It also is used to pay for those little extras the children love, such as mental maths badges.  School budgets are becoming tighter every year and we are fortunate to have been able to retain our specialist language, music and sports teachers and run our Buzz Club - all provision we would love to keep going forward.

Enjoy the weekend.

Kind regards

Cathy Bell
Headteacher

What do different plants need to grow in different habitats?
This week in Science we looked at what different plants need in order to survive.  We then looked at how this can differ based on the habitat they are in.  We learned that desert plants need to be tough to survive the climate and have thick waxy leaves.  We then compared them to...
