Dear Dorchester Families,
It has been a very busy week in school as we have begun to think about transitions and prepare for the year ahead. Our new Reception children joined us on Wednesday morning for their first Stay and Play session in their new learning environment. Children in Years R–5 had a wonderful time meeting their new teachers and classmates on our Move-Up Morning, and we welcomed our new Nursery parents for their induction meeting on Tuesday. It is always lovely to meet new members of our Dorchester community and to support children and families as they begin their educational journey with us.
A real highlight of the week came at the other end of the school: our Year 6 Leavers’ production, Gigglebox, was simply outstanding. The children sang, danced and acted brilliantly. They spoke with such clarity that the many jokes in the script landed beautifully and, just as importantly, they were wonderfully supportive of one another throughout. I think that, in my 26 years in education, it is the best Year 6 show I have seen. There are definitely some future thespians in that group!
On a sadder note, I am sharing the news that Tracey Dewar, who has worked as a Learning Support Assistant at Dorchester for almost 10 years, is retiring at the end of this academic year. Tracey currently supports children in Year 5 but, during her time with us, she has worked with children across the whole age range, both in the classroom and through Drawing and Talking sessions with individual children. Tracey has been such a valued member of our staff team. Her calm approach, flexibility and genuine desire to support our children have made a real difference to so many during her years at Dorchester. We will miss her very much, but wish her a long and very happy retirement.
Enjoy the weekend.
