Dear Dorchester Families,
It has been a wonderfully busy and successful final week of the half-term.
Earlier this week, our Year 5 and 6 children enjoyed a fantastic Sports Day — thankfully before the temperatures became quite so warm. The children showed tremendous determination, resilience and team spirit throughout the morning, cheering one another on and giving their very best in every event. Congratulations to Elizabeth House (Blue), who were crowned overall winners. Thank you to Carol, our Sports Leader, for organising such a successful event, to all the staff who helped everything run smoothly and to the many family members who came along to support the children. The atmosphere was brilliant throughout.
We also held our final Tea Time Concert of the year this week. It was a lovely celebration of the musical talent and confidence of our children, featuring performances from both the Infant and Junior Choirs, Recorder Club and a number of impressive soloists on piano and drums. The concert concluded with a wonderful rendition of Benson Boone’s Beautiful Things by our Music Ambassador Band. Thank you to Mr Dennis for organising the event, to all the children who performed and to the parents and families who came to support them. Opportunities like these are so important in helping children to develop confidence, creativity and a love of performing, and it was lovely to see the audience respond with such warmth and encouragement.
There has been plenty happening beyond this too. Year 2 Buttercup Class enjoyed their visit to the Tower of London, our Year 6 Basketball Team represented Sutton at the London Youth Games, a group of Year 5 children took part in a Multi-Sports Festival and our Year 6 Top of the Form team secured an impressive 62–53 semi-final victory against Hackbridge Primary. We are now eagerly awaiting the final — watch this space!
After such a busy half-term, we have certainly earned a rest. As we head into the bank holiday weekend, please do continue to support your children with sun safety. We seem to be enjoying one of those very rare moments where sunshine and a holiday actually coincide!
Remember that Monday 1st June is an inset day, so we will see you on Tuesday 2nd June.
Have a wonderful and restful break.
