Dear Dorchester Families

We are flying through the first half of the Spring term, with February almost upon us. Let’s hope it brings some winter sunshine after the number of wet playtimes we’ve had in school recently. While many of our children enjoy a wet play, we really do see a noticeable difference in their ability to concentrate, communicate and regulate their emotions when they’ve had fresh air and exercise at playtime. It’s a helpful reminder that physical activity benefits not only the body, but the mind as well.

In assembly on Monday, children in Years 1–5 discussed the importance of celebrating diversity and understanding that our differences are what make the world a better place. This feels like an especially important message at the moment, when so much of what we see and hear can seem to suggest the opposite. The children were encouraged to make a special effort this week to ensure everyone feels included, particularly those who may be new to the school, have fewer friends, or are naturally quieter.

You might like to take a moment over the weekend to talk with your child about this and find out whether they did something to help make life a little better for someone else. If your child has a story about how they’ve made a difference, I’d love to hear it.

Have a lovely weekend.
