Dear Dorchester Families
This week I had the opportunity to visit a primary school in Corsham, Wiltshire for two days. This visit was part of our Challenge Partners network, where leaders from schools visit schools beyond their own area to review practice and share expertise. It is always wonderful to go and see other schools in action and reflect on what we can learn from them to make our children's experiences even better at Dorchester, as well as sharing our practice to positively influence their school. A really valuable learning experience all round.
Things in school continue to be busy with our Year 6 children participating in their World War 2 day today ; evacuees visited different areas of the school and were issued with jobs by different members of staff - some of whom treated them well and others not so much - just as it would have been for children away from home during the war. We have also had a visit from a representative Damien Dalton, a Senior Engagement and Educational Officer from UK Parliament, who spoke to the children about how Parliament works, how laws are made and how to have your voice heard. The session showed our children that their voices are not just noise, but powerful tools for change, and that understanding the system gives them the lifelong ability to make it better.
Have a lovely weekend.

Our school office is in need of donations of second-hand school uniforms, including tights, socks, and underwear. If you have any items in good condition, we would be very grateful for your contribution. Donations for all age groups are welcome, but items for the younger years are especially helpful...

This week in Nursery we have continued to think about bus journeys. We have been thinking about our local area and asking ‘what can we see near our school?’ We have looked at photographs of key places near the school including The Hamptons, Dorchester Park and key shops and restaurants...

This week we talked to each other about what makes us unique. We learnt that the word unique means that we are the only one like us! There is nobody quite like us! Then we told our friends about something that we really liked - it might be a favourite food, a favourite game or our favourite colour...

This week the children loved their experiment on sound. We investigated the difference in the sounds made as the ball hit the floor each time. We then learnt about why the ball dropped for the higher height made the loudest sound and why.

In History this term we are thinking about people who have changed British History. We started by learning about William Wiberforce and how he worked hard through Parliament to abolish slavery. Google have once again found themselves in murky waters. You may be aware that a parent can create a Google account for under 13's, thereby letting Google know that this is a young child and therefore restrict some services. That account is supervised, it is managed by the parent, so far so good...
