Headteacher for a Day

Today I (Alana) was Headteacher and Hailey was my Deputy Head for a day

A day of being a head teacher is wonderful, especially when you need to walk around every classroom and ask children about their lessons! We wore our Staff Lanyards with pride.  Also we hosted the assembly and gave out the badges, the birthday cards and the Bikeability certificates.  We also hosted chocolate milk tea for this week’s Dorchestars!  We ate lunch in Mrs Bell’s office – we even let her join us!. We also gave the head teacher awards to students that are outstanding. We have found out what the students have been learning about in class, the highlights that they told us about, for example, learning facts about the Philippines and the Japanese Art was very popular in Fern Class.

We have had a brilliant day.

Thank you.

Dear Parents

It was wonderful to see so many of you at our parent consultations this week.  It is always lovely to see children showing such pride in their work as they share it with their parents and carers.  We had lots of lovely feedback from parents about how well children have settled into the academic year, the quality of their work and, most importantly, how happy they are to be part of the Dorchester community.  Thank you for your generosity at the book fair too - the children are always so excited about the fair, just the sort of enthusiasm we want around reading.  We will let you know how much  the book fair raised in books for our school when we have the figure from Scholastic.

We had another busy Open Morning this week, with our Year 6 prefects doing a fantastic job of showing our prospective parents around the school and sharing their views of their experiences at Dorchester.  As always, our visitors were unfailingly positive about the children's enthusiasm and the pride they show in their school.  Our next Open Morning is on  Wednesday 1st November; if you know anyone who will be looking for a Nursery/Reception place in September 2024 please encourage them to join us.

It has been a very busy sporting week for us.  Last Friday, a group of Year 3 and 4 children went to a Skipping and Arrows Festival at Rushy Meadow.  This week has seen a Year 3 and 5 Multiskills Festival at Wallington High School, Year 4, 5 and 6 Borough Cross Country on Thursday and our first boys' football match.  Do have a look at the Sports News below to see how our children got on - there is much to celebrate.

In addition this week children in Year 4 have enjoyed a fantastic day at Butser Farm and Year 2 took a walk round the local area to help them to hone their mapwork skills.

I am hugely grateful to all the staff in school who continue to provide such wonderful opportunities for our children despite all the additional work that these bring, especially during a Parent Consultation week.  Thank you to you all.

Have a great weekend.

Kind regards

Cathy Bell

Harvest Festival Assembly

Our Harvest Assembly will be held on Wednesday 18th October from 9:00-9:45am.  We will be donating to the foodbank at the SOS SEN charity shop on Central Road in Worcester Park.  They have asked for basic cupboard long life staples, such as cereal / juice / tea / coffee/ pasta /tins-all types / crisps / sauces / biscuits / jelly / tinned fruit / tinned or packet deserts / long life milk / long life ready to bake bread / rice / crackers etc.

If you are able to provide your child with an item from this list, please send it to school on Wednesday 18th October.  The children will bring their donations into assembly so that we can give thanks together before donating the items to SOS SEN.

Parents are welcome to join us for our Harvest celebrations.

Lunch Hall Reminders for children

Our new caters are certainly a hit with the children and staff - and we are so happy to know that everyone is enjoying their lunches so much more now.

That being said, can we politely remind all families to speak to your children about the importance of remembering to tidy away all knives, forks, spoons, plates, cups and napkins. We have been finding lots of these either left out on the tables for someone else to collect, or at times, in the bin! If we all take responsibility for our own lunch bits, the whole lunch hall will be a better place for everyone.  We will also speak to the children in school - but if you can re-iterate the message at home you might just find you have less tidying up to do!

Thank you, from all the kitchen and lunch hall staff :)
