Dear Dorchester Families
It's hard to believe that another calendar year is drawing to a close, and that we are a full term in to the academic year. It has been a very busy one, as it always is in school, but it has been amazing - the children have learnt an incredible amount and it is lovely to see the way they rise to all the challenges on offer for them. Moreover, whilst Christmas time and all associated with it can be unsettling for many children, particularly those who are neurodiverse, the children have really impressed us with their calmness and measured behaviour, demonstrating our school values in their conduct and showing wonderful kindness to one another.
It has been fantastic to see the children enjoying the new trim trail this week. They simply love it and are challenging themselves physically every day - we really do have the dream playground now and there have been surprisingly few falling out over the past few days - long may it continue.
You may have noticed the banner on the front of the school saying that we have once again been 'adopted' by Cheam Leisure Centre. This means that school staff and parents/carers can access free gym membership and children can enjoy free swimming sessions for a two week period over the Christmas holidays. So if you want the opportunity for the children to use some of that holiday energy, or you need a break from the madness for an hour or so, do make the most of it. The process has been much simplified since last time we were 'adopted' - simply scan the QR code below and follow the instructions to get your free pass.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended or visited our Christmas Fair. Thanks to your amazing support, we raised an incredible amount of money!Every penny raised by FODS is spent directly in school, helping to support and enhance the children’s learning and experiences.Thank you to our wonderful PTA for all their hard work in organising such a successful event, and to everyone who came along to support us – we couldn’t do it without you.
As the term draws to a close, we are sorry to be saying goodbye to two members of staff – Becki Baldwin, who has worked at the school for 12 years, most recently as Y1 teacher and lead, Behaviour Lead and D and T Lead is leaving to move on to an Assistant Head role at another school. Whilst we are very sad to see her go, we are delighted for her to have achieved this promotion and be able to progress in her career. Jess Kitchener, who joined us as an LSA in Year 6 last January, is also heading off to pastures new following a house move. We wish both Becki and Jess bright and successful futures as they embark on their new adventures.
At this time of year we are always inundated with lovely messages and kind notes of thanks from so many of you. We are truly grateful for this and feel very lucky to have such a supportive team of parents and carers working with us to ensure the very best outcomes for all our children. On behalf of everyone in school, thank you to you all - and we wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a peaceful break.
