28th March 2025

Dear Dorchester Families,

It was lovely to see so many parents and children during our consultation evenings this week.  Your interest in and engagement with your children's learning makes a big difference; to see children proudly going through all of their learning books with you is wonderful to see.  Thank you so much for buying from the book fair too - it really is appreciated as the school gets a good amount of commission on these purchases, which enables us to update our class bookshelves.

Thank you to FODS for running a very successful Mothers' Day shop this week.  The children always enjoy visiting and selecting something for their mum or other special person in their life.  I hope those of you that receive a gift from the shop love it as much as your child loved choosing it.

There is a lot going on next week, so please remember the following:

  • If your child is in a year group reception to year 4, they need to bring in some bits and pieces to decorate their Spring Hats next week.  They will be making these on Tuesday and/or Wednesday in preparation for our Spring Festival on Thursday afternoon.  Nursery, Year 5 and 6 please make your hat at home and bring it in by Thursday. Parents and Carers are welcome to join us for the festival at 2pm if they would like to watch the Spring Hat parade.
  • Yippy's Spring Raffle tickets are on sale each morning outside the main office until Wednesday 2nd April.  The raffle will be drawn on Thursday during the Spring Festival.  Thanks again to Yippy for putting the gift bags together for the children to enjoy.

Please check in your year group's Peek of the Week for anything else happening that is pertinent to your year group.

Eid Mubarak to all our families who begin/prepare for their celebrations and Happy Mothering Sunday to all who celebrate too.  We hope that you enjoy a special weekend.   A reminder that the clocks 'spring forward' by an hour at 1am on Sunday morning marking the start of British Summer Time - let's hope the weather agrees!

Kind regards

Cathy Bell
Headteacher

Safe and Sensible Use of WhatsApp

This week we have had to speak to a number of our older children about appropriate use of WhatsApp messages.  Although WhatsApp has an age restriction of 13+, we are aware that some of our parents allow their children to use it despite them not being old enough to do so safely and carefully.

The NSPCC has advice on keeping your child safe on WhatsApp at:

https://www.nspcc.org.uk/keeping-children-safe/online-safety/online-safety-blog/2023-01-12-is-whatsapp-safe-for-my-child/

Are you worried about a child?

If you think a child could be at risk of significant harm, you can call the children's social care team at the council in Sutton (Go to their website)
