10th May 2024

Dear Dorchester Families,

It has certainly felt a little more like the summer term this week!  The lovely weather has taken us all by surprise, with children needing lots of reminders that they will be cooler if they take their jumpers off!  I'm sure it will be second nature to them soon.

A timely reminder that it is really important to ensure your child applies suncream, or you apply it for them, before they come to school in sunny weather.  Whilst a baseball cap provides some shade to the face and will make your child more comfortable in hot, sunny weather, it is preferable for them to have a wide-brimmed sun hat, bucket hat or legionnaires cap, as these also protect the neck, cheeks and ears.

Next week our year 6 children take on their SATs - the end of Key Stage 2 papers in Reading, Maths and Spelling and Grammar.  The children always enjoy the week, and relish the opportunity to show off all they have learnt during their primary school years.  They are well-prepared, and we are proud of all of them - not just for the things they have learned, but for the wonderful young people they have become.  If you have a child in year 6, please make sure they have lots of fun and relaxation this weekend - and a good night's sleep on Sunday - in readiness for the week ahead.

Enjoy the sunshine this weekend.

Kind regards

Cathy Bell

Headteacher
