Pupil Voice

The School Council is an ideal opportunity for pupils to get more involved in the way the school is run. It benefits the whole school, pupils and teachers, because it allows pupils to communicate their feelings as well as influence decisions that are made. Councillors develop skills such as confidence, communication and negotiation. It is the responsibility of each Councillor to ensure that they express both their own views and the views of all the other pupils they represent.

What do we do?

Members of the School Council take part in discussion about changes which we could make to our school, they also feed back any relevant information to their class. At times they are requested to ask their class for ideas or take class votes relating to discussions by the Council. Members meet regularly with Mr Dennis and the school councillors change every half term.

What have we done so far?

  • The students were heavily involved in the design of the new school building, in particular the trim trail.
  • Together with the Sutton Education Trust, we raised close to £30,000 for the NHS, specifically for our local hospital Epsom and St Helier.
  • School Council have recently discussed and explained our new school rules RRS. These rules set our how we behave in school.
